Hypotrichosis is when there is a lower-than-normal number of hairs in the eyelashes. Eyelash growth occurs when follicles are activated from the root to improve length and promote growth. The function of the eyelashes is to keep small debris out of the eye.
The growth cycle consists of three phases:
-Anagen: First growth phase.
-Catagen: Transition phase.
-Telogen: Resting phase.
Prostaglandin-based treatments work to stimulate growth for longer, thicker and darker eyelashes.
Topical bimatoprost: Belongs to the class of drugs called prostaglandin analogs, it acts by increasing the amount and time in which eyelashes grow.
