How to take it?

The dosage and duration depends on the type and severity of infection being treated. Always follow your doctor's instructions for taking doxycycline.

For oral dosage forms (tablets, capsules, suspension), take with a full glass of water to avoid irritation to the esophagus. Take on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals, if possible

  • For the delayed-release products, swallow whole without breaking, crushing, chewing or opening the capsule or tablet.
  • For severe infections, the dose may be taken in 2 divided doses (100 mg every 12 hours)

Contraindications

Doxycycline should not be used in individuals with:

  • A known allergy to doxycycline, tetracycline antibiotics, or any inactive ingredients in the formulation
  • Pregnancy, as it may harm fetal development
  • Children under the age of eight, due to the risk of permanent tooth discoloration and effects on bone growth
  • Severe liver impairment, as it may exacerbate liver function issues.

  • Photosensitivity
